Rodolphe Boulanger is the president of The Wine Messenger, a leading catalog and internet wine retailer focused on wines from small producers. Boulanger grew up around wine thanks to his French father and wine-collecting American grandfather. He loves how wine combines so many of his passions: history, trade, agriculture, biochemistry, culture, cuisine, and even art.
Boulanger has spent most of the last decade working in the import, distribution
and retail of European wines in New York City and beyond. He earned a
bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Swarthmore College, an MBA from Columbia
Business School and conducted research at the Plant Science Institute at the
University of Pennsylvania. He is a designated Certified Wine Educator (CWE)
from the Society of Wine Educators, holds the French Wine Scholar (FWS)
certification from the French Wine Society and achieved his WSET Diploma in
Wine & Spirts in 2009.
Boulanger has traveled extensively to all the major wine regions of France,
Italy and California. He also enjoys regular visits behind the bar to apply his
amateur mixology skills.
