Wines of Germany
Wines of Germany is the exclusive U.S. office of the Deutsches Weininstitut. Wines of Germany is focused on creating greater awareness to further enhance the image and increase sales of wine in the U.S. through educational and promotional activities. It is the primary information source on winesderiving from the 13 German wine growing regions for members of the wine trade, the media, and U.S. consumers. The promotional and educational efforts of Wines of Germany focus primarily on Riesling, the most famous German grape variety.

Eins Zwei Dry '3', Leitz
The punny name notwithstanding, this is from the Geisenheimer Rothenberg, which a greedier guy would (and could) bottle as an Erstes Gewächs and sell for the price of an Alba truffle. I mean, this is a mind-boggling value; the stature and length are ridiculous in this echelon, and the sample in my glass is seriously bottle-sick! Thus I’ll defer a detailed account, but I remember the cask-sample, and the bedrock quality is there in spades.
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett, Selbach-Oster
Continuation of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr downstream, towards where the dam across the Mosel widens the water surface. The appellation ends at the church at the southern end of Zeltingen. Very steep slope with large outcroppings of rock. Large chunks of blue Devonian slate, very shallow subsoil of decomposed slate on top of slate bedrock. Driest soil of the five sites. Very close to the water surface of the Mosel.
Estate Riesling, Donnhoff
Durkheimer Nonnengarten Riesling Kabinett, Darting
The best vintage of this in ten years or more. A paltry 25.5 g.l. extract, restrained-seeming RS; actual complexity here yet it’s addictively drinkable, with a wonderful yin-yang of fruit and citrussy tartness; both firm and agreeable; insane value.
